Recchia's Baby and Frog Before Treatment
The sculpture is a well-loved piece from Rockport, MA that suffered from its environment near the ocean
The face was badly corroded and gave the piece a somewhat quizzical look.
Recchia's Baby and Frog is an example of a sculpture whose features had been reversed through corrosion of the metal to a bright green. Areas that on a human would be bright, such as the cheek bones, forehead, hair, and upper shoulders were deep brown and hidden areas such as around the eyes and center of the chest were bright green.Baby and Frog After Treatment
After repatination of the surface of the bronze
The lights and darks have been re-established in the treated piece.
SDACS LLC repatinated the piece using a chemical hot-torch method and coated it with both a lacquer and wax to reduce the possibility of corrosion in the future. Examples of the artist in other collections was used to guide the choice of patina color. The child is once again smiling.
